Deadly Crash in Fairview Heights

|

A deadly crash in Fairview Heights on I-64 involving Briteway Striping Services’ construction workers has left the town of Pocahontas, Illinois mourning and many others asking what happened. Apparently, around 9:30 am on Tuesday, a car driven by Michael Jeter clipped a truck then crashed into the back of a construction vehicle. There were four highway workers injured in the accident. Two of the three workers were airlifted to Saint Louis University Hospital where one of them, identified as 48-year-old Dennis Beard, died as a result of his injuries. Another man was taken to Saint Louis University Hospital by ambulance and the fourth man was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Traffic was backed up for miles as authorities completely shut down I-64 east in the area so an accident reconstruction team from the Illinois State Police could investigate what exactly happened. I-64 eastbound reopened at about 2:30 pm. No word yet if the driver of the car will face any charges. Illinois State Police continue to investigate.
